I live in Brantford, Ontario, Canada and work as a computer technician. I repair computers, help people sort out their technology problems, and do it because I enjoy it. I'm shy by nature — quiet doesn't mean unhelpful. I just prefer the work to speak for itself.
Here are a few firm positions I hold and never apologize for:
I believe the NES is better than the SNES. Both are excellent systems, no question. The SNES had superior hardware and more impressive graphics, but the NES got there first, shaped how I grew up, and its library of foundational games is unmatched. I'll die on this hill.
I hate black licorice. I will not eat it. I will not pretend I like it. If someone offers it to me, I will say no. This is not up for debate.
I still own my original 3dfx Voodoo 1 graphics card — the card that launched consumer 3D gaming. It sits in a box on my shelf like a relic. I bought one when they were still available at retail, back when you had to buy a Voodoo card specifically just to run games in 3D acceleration. Before that, graphics cards were boring and basic. The Voodoo changed everything. Keeping one is a matter of respect.
I am genuinely disappointed with the lack of use of PERL. It is such a cool programming language. It was everywhere for decades — web scripting, system administration, text processing — and it could do it all in a way that felt almost like magic. People talk about Python and Perl like they're the same thing. They're not. PERL earned its reputation. I'd love to see it get more love than it does today.
