Hello. My name is Mark Parsons. I fix computers and help people with technology in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. I know, I know — you're absolutely shocked that a guy named Mark, in Canada, repairs computers. Truly unprecedented. Film at eleven.

If your laptop is making a noise like a dying seal, your browser has seventeen toolbars you didn't install, or Windows has decided it's a great time to update for 45 minutes while you're giving a presentation — I am the person you should call. Or you could watch a YouTube tutorial made by a teenager in 2009. Your call.

Long before the internet became a place where people argue about sandwiches, there was the BBS scene of the 1990s. Bulletin Board Systems. You called a phone number, a modem made the sound of two robots shaking hands, and then you were connected to a whole community of people who were also awake at 2 a.m. for some reason.

Mark loved every single second of it. He still does. He will talk to you about it whether you asked or not. SysOps, ASCII art, 28.8k baud modems, door games, file ratios — Mark remembers all of it with the kind of warm fondness most people reserve for childhood summers. The BBS was his internet before the internet was his internet. Very grounding stuff.

Governor General's Award — Recipient

Yes, Mark won a Governor General's Award. An actual one. From the actual Governor General of Canada. He keeps it next to the router so it can finally be near something impressive. We are not going to tell you which category because frankly it makes the rest of the page look underwhelming. The award is real. The humility is a work in progress.

Mark is a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He has been a Toronto Maple Leafs fan his entire life. He knows exactly what this means. He knew what this meant before it happened and he did it anyway, which is either admirable or deeply concerning — therapists are divided.

Every October, Mark watches with renewed hope. Every April or May, he is reminded, with surgical precision, why hope is dangerous. But hey, maybe this is their year. It's always their year. Right up until it isn't. Mark deeply regrets this loyalty and would like it noted for the record.

Mark runs on his mother's home-cooked meals. Not on coffee, not on energy drinks, not on whatever sad desk sandwich you've been eating for lunch. His mother's cooking is, by all accounts, exceptional, and Mark will absolutely tell you this unprompted at a professional appointment. The meals are a cornerstone of the operation. No mom's cooking, no fixed computers. It's a supply chain issue.

Need your computer fixed? Have a tech question? Ready to book an appointment with someone who actually knows what they're doing? Revolutionary concept, I know.
