Governor General's Award Winner One of Canada's highest honours — a moment that still gives me goosebumps.

Hometown: Brantford, Ontario, Canada — where I live and work.
Heritage: Mark is half Dutch. The tulips are nice, but the computers are better.
First machine: Atari 800XL. That's where it all started. If you know, you know.
Never flown: Mark has never been on an airplane. Not because of fear — just hasn't come up yet. Small world, big country.

NES over SNES. Mark believes the NES is better than the SNES, though both are excellent systems. The original is the original for a reason.
Desktop environment: Linux KDE. Always has been. The customization, the polish, the ecosystem — nothing else comes close for a power user.
PERL is criminally underused. Mark is disappointed with the lack of use of PERL. It is such a cool programming language — expressive, powerful, and still wildly capable. The world just moved on too fast.
